Florida Retirement Communities

There are many Florida retirement communities to choose from. While a retiree could live on his or her own, there are many advantages to living in a retirement community. A retirement community not only provides one with a place to live but also a community center, varied forms of entertainment and in some cases transportation and medical assistance. Following are some of the best retirement communities in Florida and what each one has to offer.

Four Lakes Golf Club

Four Lakes Golf Club is one of the best retirement communities in Florida. It is located in White Haven, just a short drive from Tampa and Clearwater. It is a luxurious retirement community made up of manufactured homes that have been built on golf courses and waterfront lots.

The area is scenic and tranquil and this community offers several dozen indoor and outdoor activities. There is also a fitness center, restaurant and 18 hole golf course. However, the community is not located close to a beach and there are no boating and fishing opportunities close by. Four Lakes Golf Club is also quite pricey.

SummerGlen

SummerGlen is also one of the best Florida retirement communities. It is located in Ocala, which is under an hour’s drive from Orlando.

This community is not as luxurious as other Florida retirement communities, but it does have much to offer which the rest doesn’t have.

SummerGlen is an ideal community for active or semi-active retirees. The community has a fitness center with a heated pool and various sports courts.

Opportunities for fishing and hiking are only a half hour’s drive away. Indoor activities and hobby groups are available as well. SummerGlen also offers fully secure RV storage facilities within the community.

Lakes of Mount Dora Pringle Homebuilding Group

This retirement community is ideal for a person who enjoys living near a lake. Lakes of Mount Dora has built three quarters of all its housing on the lakefront. This community has many of the same amenities, clubs and activities that most other Florida retirement villages have, along with boating and fishing opportunities right inside the community. Gated RV storage is also provided and the community is located near Orlando, Tampa and St. Petersburg. Lakes of Mount Dora is not located near a beach and does not offer onsite RV storage, but it does have a lot going for it.

Coquina Crossing — ELS

This retirement community in Elkton, Florida has recently been named as one of America’s one hundred best master planned communities.

Coquina Crossing is a luxurious retirement community that is located just ten minutes from beaches, golf courses and the interesting city of St. Augustine.

There is a top of the line medical center that is only a five minute drive from the community; this ensures that community residents have immediate access to medical care should they need it.

Coquina Crossing offers an onsite community center, fitness room, full kitchen, special interest groups and a heated pool. Boating and fishing opportunities are not far. Coquina is one of the most secure retirement communities in Florida. The gate is manned and the RV storage facility is fenced in. However, Coquina Crossing does not have on site golf courses and sports courts. While there is a full time activity director, there are not as many indoor and outdoor group activities as there are at other retirement communities.

There are many excellent Florida retirement communities. However, a community that is ideal for one person may not be ideal for another. One should consider what type of town or community he or she wants to live in. It is also important to consider costs. Luxurious Florida retirement communities will usually be more expensive than regular ones. As there are many affordable housing options in Florida retirement communities, a retiree should simple pick a community that he or she finds suitable and affordable.
